WHITECHAPLE GALLERY NOCTURNAL CREATURES FESTIVAL 2022



 For one night and one night only
Nocturnal Creatures festival transforms Whitechapel Gallery and unusual, historic and outdoor locations nearby. Set imaginations alight through incredible, unique experiences for one magical night, from free live performances to installations, music, film and DJ sets. 

The exciting commissions and takeovers of the festival complement the Gallery’s summer exhibition programme, and are accompanied by a host of other performances as part of Sculpture and the City. Nocturnal Creatures offers a unique platform for artists to exhibit in the public realm and reach new audiences.

 Engaged general public with heritage space through an immersive performance.
Invited by Whitechaple gallery, Yibeijia Li and Sofia Deria designed and constructed a 30-minute immersive play named anecdote and performed at the House of Annetta, as part of the Nocturnal Creatures Program.Yibeijia reimagined the play and directed a new performance that took the audience through an evening of conversation between two friends about their world, relationships and endless internal curiosities.
The project aimed to engaged general public with heritage space creatively through an immersive performance. Opening up opportunities and inspirations for local creative communities.
Inspired by the work of Annetta Pedretti (b.1954) “Anecdote” was a constellation of conversations weaving through the ground floor of the house. Taken through the night, we hear their accounts of the world: a graceful tale on love, perception or one could say conflict of the self and the joys of youth…
